My Story
From delivering babies to delivering clarity in midlife care
I grew up in Aurora, Colorado with my parents and two sisters. Family has always been at the center of my core values, and I am so fortunate to have always had close relationships with my sisters, mom, aunt, and grandmothers. These women continue to shape how I raise my three daughters and how I provide care for the women I serve as an OB/GYN. I earned my undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the University of Colorado in Boulder and my medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. I then completed my four-year residency training in obstetrics and gynecology, also at the University of Colorado, at the Anschutz Health Sciences Center in Aurora. Upon graduation, I was extremely fortunate to be offered a job with Kaiser as a generalist OB/GYN and have continued to work for them for over 10 years now. I absolutely love my patients and colleagues!
While my training in obstetric care in residency was extremely thorough, I found that my skills as an Obstetrician only grew once I went through pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period first-hand. My training in mid-life women’s care, specifically in the management of menopause, perimenopause and women’s sexual health was, unfortunately, not nearly as thorough. When I first came out of training, I would actually dread when I’d see that a woman was coming to see me for a hormone consult. I simply did not feel equipped to address her concerns, and we would both leave these visits feeling discouraged and unsatisfied. If her symptoms did not fit exactly as the textbook told me they should, or if she did not feel well or see improvement on the one and only hormone regimen I prescribed, I’d quickly refer her to my partners with more experience and interest in menopause care.
My comfort in managing menopause/perimenopause improved significantly within a few short years of working a full-scope OB/GYN due to both mentorship from colleagues and my drive to always provide the most up to date care available for the women who come to see me. In more recent years, as I’ve witnessed the frailty of my grandmother’s body as she lived to almost 90 years in age, as my mom and aunt provide a mirror for me as they go through their own mid-life health victories and struggles, and as my body and brain are just not working quite the same way as they used to, I’ve started to focus on what midlife health looks like for me personally and how I can show up even better for my patients. I’ve spent hundreds and hundreds of hours over the past several years equipping myself in additional education and training in evidence-based menopause and women’s sexual health care. Today, I am beyond excited when I see a hormone consult on my schedule! I do still experience an element of dread too, however, worrying how I will manage the complexity of this care among the 18-20 other appointments I have scheduled each day for women whose needs are equally important.
Why I Created Elevated Menopause Care
Like many physicians, I’ve felt the frustration of trying to deliver complex care in a system built for speed, not depth. Inspired by my husband, Ben—who also left the insurance-based system to form a patient-focused direct primary care practice—I decided to create a space where I could do the same.
Elevated Menopause Care is a micropractice designed for women like you.
With time to listen, the freedom to treat, and the expertise to guide—you’ll never feel dismissed or rushed again
